Hip Hop Samples: California Love

So I was going to hold off and slowly put out “Hip Hop Samples” posts like once a week, but this one is just TOO GOOD! It turns out that the beat and hook for “California Love” (by Tupac) were actually taken from two separate songs. The beat is directly sampled from Joe Cocker’s “Woman to Woman”, and the hook (“California…knows how to party…”) was snatched from “West Coast Poplock” by Ronnie Hudson. Dr. Dre really is a beast of a producer…the way he cut and pasted these two tracks to make Tupac’s jam is amazing. If you listen to nothing else on this entire blog, listen to these!
